Microsoft announces new Azure-based edge solutions. These combine cloud computing with the new 5G mobile communications standard to enable broadband and low-latency applications up to the private 5G network.
Cloud, edge computing and IoT are making huge strides. These technologies are in the process of transforming entire industries and are creating opportunities that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. 5G will now push the boundaries of what is feasible again and offer users immersive real-time experiences with demanding, extremely low latency times and connectivity requirements.
5G opens up new perspectives with transmission speeds that are up to ten times higher than with the established mobile radio standard, reliable communication with low latency and very high device density of up to one million devices per square kilometer.
With Azure Edge Zones, Microsoft is announcing the possibility of bringing the cloud computing platform Azure together with 5G, carriers and technology partners around the world and thus generating new scenarios for developers, customers and partners.
Azure Edge Zones In Three Variants
The development of fast 5G mobile communications is progressing rapidly, and Microsoft is contributing to this progress with its cloud solutions. The IT company announces the preview of Azure Edge Zones. The new service combines 5G technology and offers from well-known network operators and suppliers with the power of Microsoft Azure. This results in numerous new application scenarios for developers, customers and partners who need particularly fast data processing.
Azure Edge Zones Will Be Available In Three Variants:
Building on the longstanding collaboration with the telco group AT&T, Azure Edge Zones with carriers was developed – a service that connects Azure services directly with 5G networks in the data center of the carrier. This enables developers to build optimized and scalable applications with Azure that are directly connected to 5G networks while taking advantage of consistent Azure APIs and tools that are available in the public cloud.

These new Azure Edge Zones will increase the performance of the applications and offer the best possible user experience – for example, if ultra-low latency times are required or sensitive mobile applications are to be run and SIM-capable architectures such as online games, remote sessions and – are to be implemented. Events or smart infrastructures in buildings or cities. With 5G and cloud computing, millions of endpoints can be reliably connected and the generated data can be analyzed promptly.
With Azure Edge Zones, Microsoft is expanding its collaboration with several carrier partners to make the Azure Edge Zones family available to the market later this year.
In addition to working with network operators, we will also be offering standalone Azure Edge Zones in select cities over the next twelve months to bring Azure closer to customers and developers in very densely populated areas.
Azure Private Edge Zones is a private 5G / LTE network that, in combination with Azure Stack Edge on-site, represents an extremely low-latency, secure and broadband solution for companies, for example, the delivery times in e-commerce through the use of Shorten robots for storage and retrieval and order processing. This solution uses Azure Edge Zones and IoT technologies such as Azure IoT Central and Azure Sphere.
Other fields of application for Azure Edge Zones are:
Intelligent factories / IoT: Offshore companies can now take advantage of edge computing and network everything – from microchips to sensors. You can use digital twins or use mixed reality, all with a secure private connection.
Healthcare: From remote operations to complex diagnostic procedures based on cross-institutional collaboration, Azure Private Edge Zones enables efficient edge computing and storage with AI and minimal latency.
Together, Azure, Azure Edge Zones and Azure Private Edge Zones open up an entire range of new allotted applications with a common and constant architecture. For example, agencies that operate a headquarters infrastructure on Azure can use Azure Edge Zones for latency-crucial interactive client studies and Azure Private Edge Zones for their far off locations.
Business solution companies can take benefit of the regular developer, management, and safety experience, so developers continue to apply Github, Azure DevOps, and Kubernetes Services to build applications in Azure, and certainly use the utility in Azure Edge Zones or, relying on customer needs Can move private aspect zones.
“By combining Vodafone 5G and cellular personal networks with Azure Private Edge Zones, our clients will be able to run cloud programs on cellular gadgets with a reaction time within the single-digit millisecond range. For example, autonomous automobiles and virtual fact Services are crucial due to the fact these applications should reply in real-time, and it’ll enable groups to redecorate their operations and use virtual truth, real-time robotics and high-resolution photo processing for blunders detection.
